Laurence Brahm: Witness of China's Huge Change

 
Laurence Brahm was born in the States but lives in Beijing. As a frequent visitors in Beijing hutongs on his bicycle, he enjoys the leisure of Beijing very much.
He has got three properties in Beijing, which are all typical Chinese quadrangles with beautiful decorations: red columns, and colorful beams.
Laurence Brahm arrived at Beijing with another 22 American students in 1981. A strange world indeed was in his eyes at that time. He never imagined that he witnessed the huge changes in China from the very beginning to the great success up to now.
Very soon Laurence Brahm began to communicate with his schoolmates in Chinese in the campus Nankai University, where he found vendors were appearing around the small lanes around, selling all kind of rural products, which were severely prohibited years ago.
Half year later he moved to Hong Kong to further his research about China, where he worked in an American law office at his free time.
Early 1983 very few HK business people dared to invest to mainland of China, while Laurence Brahm was sure and quite confident about the broad future of Chinese huge market. He began to translate the complicated Chinese law documents into English, which were good guides to the western investors at that time.
Only half a year later Laurence Brahm opened the branch office of the American law firm in Beijing and he was really among the first group of westerners working in Beijing.
Laurence Brahm began to become busy with more and more western business people came into Beijing for research programs. Years later, at the age of 26,  Laurence Brahm was appointed the Beijing Office Director by Dentonhall Law Firm, which was really a bold appointment in law circles.
Laurence Brahm was frequently seen and met at different occasions of business negotiation, which he definitely served as a helpful bridge between western and eastern cultures.
In 1992, many western multi-national corporations began to land the mainland of China, Laurence Brahm opened his own business--- a business consulting office in Beijing. Kodak, Bayer, Siemens and Ericsson became his clients one after another.
With the development of China reform and open policy, Laurence Brahm has become the first reminder and consultant to the western investors as long as they come up with the idea of extending their business in mainland of China.
In 2001, Laurence Brahm wrote his work China Century to snap back the great suspicion about China's success with a lot of data and photos he collected from all parts of China.
In 2008 a very thick picture album was sent to every distinguished guest to the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games, which was edited by Laurence Brahm. The album was named China.
