Tang Dynasty (618-907)
After the Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms Period (220-265), the Jin Dynasty (265-420), the Southern and Northern Dynasties (420-589) and the Sui Dynasty (581-618) were succeeded by the Tang Dynasty, established by Li Yuan in 618. Li Shimin, or Emperor Taizong (r. 626-649), son of Li Yuan, adopted a series of liberal policies, pushing the prosperity of China's feudal society to its peak: Agriculture, handicrafts and commerce flourished; technologies for textile manufacturing and dyeing, pottery and porcelain production, smelting and shipbuilding were further developed; and land and water transportation greatly improved. By the 660s, China's influence had firmly taken root in the Tarim and Junggar basins and the Ili River valley, and even extended to many city-states in Central Asia. During this period, extensive economic and cultural relations were established with many countries, including Japan, Korea, India, Persia and Arabia.

Tang dynasty is a very important era in Chinese history. It is regarded by historians as the strongest empire on the earth in the eighth century, and at the same time, Its capital Chang'an (my hometown)was the center of trades and culture in the world. By the Silk Road, lots of creativity and goods was transmitted to the west, such as paper-making, silk and spices. Of course, the empire learned a flowering of things in many fields, too. Buddhism, originating in India more than one thousand years before, flourished during the Tang period, becoming thoroughly sinicized and a permanent part of Chinese traditional culture.
The Tang dynasty was the golden age of literature and art. In the aspect of literature, especially poetry, is considered as the peak in Chinese history. Many famous poets came up in this period, Li Bai, Du FU, Bai Juyi etc. They left wealthy and brilliant works to posterity.
In politics, Tang government perfected the system of examinations based on Confucianism that was used to select the best knowledgeable people from civil to government. The system was abolished until the last day of Qing dynasty in 1911.
Due to the rebellion of An and Shi that broke out in late eighth century, Tang empire was greatly weakened, even though there was resurgence in early ninth centuty, the Tang dynasty was eventually collapsed in 907AD.
