The Embroidery and Cross-stitch Works

The embroidery and cross-stitch works are the two exquisite art works full of traditional features, each with its own distinction: delicate and pretty of the Buyi, splendid and colorful of the Miao; simple but tasteful of the Shui, lucid and lively of the Dong...

Among the embroideries, that of the Miao is typical, with the materials from Nature such as fresh flowers, fruits, bees, butterflies, birds, fish, shrimps, insects and crabs.  They are embroidered into geometric patterns with the appealing decorative effect in great and bold artistic exaggeration.

The cross-stitch work, mainly in a geometric pattern knitted with rhythm, is a kind of decoration designed according to the warp and woof of the fabric. The Miao people of Huaxi District are well-known for their ingenious and fine cross-stitch work. Their traditional skills have been improved in colors and compositions to meet the needs and demands of the consumers, well appreciated for their modern beauty.

Bonamo Paintings on Winnowing Fans

These are ethnic paintings in Guiyang. Bonamo, in Buyi language, refers to the Yunwu Mountains surrounding the suburbs.  The Buyi people paint flowers, plants, insects, fish, flying birds and beasts, the sun, the moon, mountains and rivers, fairy stories and legends on the winnowing fans which are exquisite handicraft articles, full of the strong flavor of rural life and ethnic features.

Woodcut

Taking the woody plant, vine and herbs as material, the works of woodcut are full of plain and modern beauty, expressing the aesthetic value of the remote antiquity, mysterious simplicity, a bold and unconstrained primitive culture. There are lots of works with various characteristics. The Exhibition of Chen Baiqiu's Woodcut Works, held in China Art Gallery in Beijing, has had influence in the domestic and foreign art field.  Three pieces of his works were collected by China Art Gallery. There is an exhibition hall of woodcut works in Baiyun District, Guiyang City.

Peculiar Stones

There is a rich resource of peculiar stones in Guizhou as a result of the exceptional geological structure and landforms. The total number of the peculiar stones with various shapes and splendid color in Guizhou takes one fourth of those in the country such as green stone, Panjiang stone, Wuyang stone, river stones, stones on whose surface there are patterns very similar to the traditional Chinese paintings unique vertebrate fossils such as Hus Guizhou Dragon, and crystals of quartz named roses on the plateau.  Most of the quality peculiar stones are gathered in Guiyang. Some exhibition halls such as Guizhou Museum of which covers 1100square meters are built in Cuiwei Garden and Yangming Temple in Guiyang City.

Traditional Chinese Medicine

As one of the four medicine production zones of the country, Guizhou is rich in medicinal materials with more than 4,000 kinds of high quality medicinal plants, which bring it the good reputation of "the home of genuine medicinal materials". In Guiyang, there are more than 170 medicinal plants, of which, the bark of eucommia and the tuber of elevated gastrodia are well-known.  Many enterprises in Guiyang, making good use of the local abundant medicinal plants, have developed some medicines with good effects such as the Peditines Abated, Junchunle (for vitalization) and P at Medicine Box produced by Guizhou Magic Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd; the "Beauty Waistband by Guizhou Sanshui Technical Development Co., Ltd; L aolaifu(long life SOD) by Guizhou Longfa Health Protection Pharmaceutical Factory and Rishu'an by Guizhou Hanfang Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. The industry of biological engineering with the medicine industry as the main part is to take a dominant place in the 21st century in Guiyang.

Tea

Of the various kinds of tea in Guizhou with unique flavor and high quality, Duyun Maojian, Zunyi Maofeng and Guiyang Yang'ai Maofeng are the well known ones. The suburbs of Guiyang are producing areas of excellent tea. The tea produced by Yang'ai Tea Plantation has once been rated as one of the famous tea of the country. Zhaosi Tea, produced in Zhaosi Village, Qiantao Town in the suburb of Guiyang, has a long history of cultivation and enjoys a good reputaion. It is said that during the reign of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty (1662-1722), Mr. Zhou Yuhuang, a member of the Imperial Academy and a successful candidate in the highest imperial examination from Guizhou, brought Zhaosi tea as a tribute to the emperor. Hence spread the story of s avouring Zhaosi tea brought by the reverend Mr. Zhao, the air was heavy with the tea aroma inside and outside the imperial palace. Zhaosi tea is a kind of green tea cured and processed into neat and well-proportioned shapes in dark colours. The tea water looks yellow-green and tastes refreshing.

Cili

As one of the wild local fruit growing in mountains, Cili (Thorn Pear) is very nutritious with several kinds of vitamine, amino acids, inorganic salts and trace elements. For its especially rich vitamine C, Cili is entitled the king of vitamine C. Scientific research proves that Cili can protect people from cancer and it has a good effect in treating lead poisoning, heart and blood vessel diseases, enterogastritis, anaemia, etc,. The exploitation of series products of Cili is under way.

Chilies

Both the f lat dried chili produced in Baiyun Town of Guiyang in thin and long shape, bright red color, good smell and pungent taste, and the Dangwu chili produced in Huaxi District enjoy a good reputation. In Guiyang, the food processing with chili as the main raw material is being industrilized. Some products such as Laoganma Fenglazi and Lajiaowang have become famous brand products which are sold all over the county and to Japan and countries in Southeast Asia.
