A student's impression of Beijing Tour

Ms. Zhao Bin
The purely blue and cloudless sky with a group of pigeon flying across at times, and the golden gingko leaves glossing in the warm sunshine, as well as the cool wind stroking gently through my face----now comes again the most beautiful and comfortable season of Beijing. When I first arrived at the Beijing in my early ages, I got firmly impressed by the old city and its charming autumn and felt that there may be just a fated belt between I and the city. Not long after, I was enrolled by Capital University of Medical Science in 2003, then started my life in Beijing .
Anyone who first visits Beijing will undoubtedly be overwhelmed by a thick atmosphere of royalty and graveness. It's natural because Beijing has been appointed as the capital of china for more than 850 years ever since Yuan Dynasty. Being the capital of the great feudal empire, Beijing is thoroughly permeated with the will of the emperor, the custom of the feudal society.
First and foremost, the whole city is constructed in strict symmetry based on Chinese traditional thoughts of harmony and designed to be holy as to symbolize that the emperor is entitled by heaven. Then, we still can see the classified region for different people to live at old days. For instance, the Forbidden City is the royal area, and a circle just around it is the region for some nobles and ministers exclusively, outside of which is for ordinary people. The many ancient palaces, walls as well as temples and pagodas are all like old men telling us the past glory and the suffering years in silence. Actually, the Chinese traditional culture is so well melted into the city that you can see and taste it at any detail of the constructions. Each of this may elicit an interesting story. Take the paired stone in front of the door for example, it is called ¡°hu dui¡±, and it ranges from a caved lion to just a common stone according to the rank of the family living behind the door. Besides, there is also a pair of prominent wood placed above the door called ¡°men dang¡± for the same use. So, a combination of they two will be a Chinese proverb with the meaning that a marriage is between two families of comparatively the same rank¡ªthat is an acceptable one. Similarly, you can find more if you are careful and sensitive enough. Therefore, it¡¯s no surprise that there are always many foreign friends lingering about the complicated Hutong without tiredness.
Beijing is unique for its long history, abundant cultural deposition, and another important point¡ªits spirit of tolerance and acceptance.
Beijing is a well modernized city. There are crossroads, underground, and sky-scrappers everywhere. It is quite common to find a temple surrounded by a circle of concrete buildings. Networks and other high-tech facilities have become universal while some old customs still have wide popularity. It tastes like a bottle of mixture including different elements of different times, original and attractive. Beijing is also a big city with more than 10 million people, many of which come from the other provinces of china, or the other countries around the world. They speak different language, hold different beliefs, have different backgrounds, and be after different goals, but they all live together in the city and improve it all the time.
Beijing is advancing further; in front of it are the 2008 Olympic Games. It is a big challenge at the same time a big opportunity of development. It is reasonable to believe that with the many smart minds and the hospitable citizens, it can hold a success Olympic Games and compose a new glorious movement in its history.
